Metal and Glass

Name:  Equilibrium

Process:  Glass Casting

Media  Glass  / Metal

Size: 68" H X 27"W

Artist: Daxel Lopez

Year: 2021

Equilibrium represents the human need to be adaptable, maintaining a balance in life to achieve stability and influence in connection with others. Split down the centre of this piece, two metal arms cross through and around each other. Above these arms in light, incandescent free-flowing veils of blue, two glass pieces sit atop. Divided in halves, the circle is split; mirroring the dualistic nature of Equilibrium. They juxtapose the rigidity of the metal arms by embracing its cyclical forms; bringing a sense of fragile intricacy to the two pillars of strength. The dualistic nature of metal and glass reflect the opposing materials and ideas of balance that Equilibrium resembles. The segments of the piece intertwine with each other creating an uncanny effect. It contrasts with hard and soft, spontaneity and structure, rigidity and flow through its form, materiality and asymmetry. The composition of the piece brings the irregularity of these many shapes into balance. In its dual forms of malleability and strength, Equilibrium reflects this embrace of change within a united frozen moment
